A mechanical engineer working on buildings designs the systems that move heat, air, and water. That includes cooling, heating, ventilation, humidity control, and the automation that operates those systems. The deliverable is not a service truck. It is a basis of design, calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction-phase review.

Design, not installation
Mechanical engineers calculate loads, select system types, and define performance. Installing technicians set equipment. Both are necessary; they are not the same job. If a clinic needs a new air handler, the engineer decides capacity, outdoor air, filtration, and controls. The contractor installs what was specified, or proposes substitutions that the engineer reviews.
